Cupid's Route Lock: A Completely Scientific Quiz to Match You With Your Nitroplus Valentine

February is a cruel month for the terminally single anime fan. Every drugstore is a minefield of heart-shaped boxes, every streaming service is shoving couple's content down your throat, and your group chat won't stop posting photos of the dinner they're not inviting you to.

But here at NITROPLUS.NET, we believe everyone deserves love. Even you. Especially you, actually, because you clicked on this.

The problem, of course, is that the Nitroplus catalog doesn't really do "meet-cute at a coffee shop." It does "meet-cute, and then the coffee shop burns down with everyone inside." So before you commit to a fictional Valentine, you need to know exactly what you're signing up for. Consider this your compatibility assessment. Answer honestly. The routes are watching.

Question One: How Much Emotional Damage Can You Actually Absorb?

Be real with yourself here. There are three archetypes of visual novel reader:

The Tourist. You watched one anime adaptation and think you know the story. You cry at Pixar movies. You call Up "devastating."

The Veteran. You've done full completionist runs. You know what a bad end flag looks like before the game even shows it to you. You keep a spreadsheet.

** The Volunteer.** You want to be hurt. You saw the content warnings and took them as a menu.

If you're a Tourist, congratulations — you get to be matched with the route that pretends to be a romcom. The early chapters of the Nitroplus-adjacent catalog are masters of the bait-and-switch: sunny school days, banter, a love triangle that resolves wholesomely. Right up until chapter four, when you learn why nobody in this town makes eye contact anymore. You'll get a genuine romance arc. You'll also leave with trust issues about sunny weather. It's the perfect starter Valentine: sweet on the surface, with a lingering aftertaste you'll be chewing on for months.

Question Two: Do You Want a Partner or a Project?

Some Nitroplus love interests are fully formed people. Some are, charitably, "under construction." If you answered "project," you're being matched with the brilliant-but-broken archetype — the genius who communicates exclusively through sarcasm, cryptic warnings, and the occasional full psychological collapse directly onto you.

Dating this archetype is like adopting a raccoon that has a PhD. It's brilliant. It will solve problems you didn't know you had. It will also scream at 3 a.m. and you will deserve it, because you knew what you were adopting.

The upside? Nobody in fiction will ever fight harder for you. The downside? "Fighting for you" may involve crimes. Plural crimes. Possibly international ones.

Question Three: How Do You Feel About Non-Human Partners?

This is the big divider in the Nitroplus dating pool, and no, we're not going to pretend otherwise. A meaningful percentage of the roster is not what you'd call "carbon-based," "alive in the traditional sense," or "legally recognized in any US state."

If your answer is "the more eldritch the better," you've earned the deep-cut route: the love interest whose affection is genuine but whose concept of affection was assembled from fragments of forbidden texts. These romances are weirdly tender! There's often a beautiful, tragic core about loneliness and the desire to be understood — it's just wrapped in a package that would get you escorted out of any Marriott in America (see our previous coverage; we have receipts).

If your answer is "I'd prefer someone with a functioning human skeleton," stick with the time-looped scientist types. They're human, they're passionate, and the worst thing they'll do to you is make you watch them fail the same three days for forty hours of playtime while you fall for them against your will. Which, honestly, is its own kind of eldritch horror.

Question Four: What's Your Post-Route Recovery Plan?

Every Nitroplus Valentine comes with a hangover. The question is whether you have a plan for it.

Your Results

Did we actually build a quiz with coded results? Of course not. This is a listicle wearing a quiz's clothes, and if that feels like a betrayal, congratulations — you've now experienced the core emotional mechanic of every Nitroplus romance route. Consider it a free trial.

Here's the real answer, though: your ideal Nitroplus Valentine is the one you're scared to click on. The route you've been avoiding. The character the fandom memes about with that specific knowing tone. That's the one. It always is.

So this February 14th, skip the overpriced prix fixe dinner. Cancel the plans you didn't have. Dim the lights, charge your laptop, save in a different slot this time (learn from our mistakes), and let a fictional murder robot show you what romance really means.

It means consequences. Beautiful, devastating, beautifully devastating consequences.

Happy Valentine's Day, you absolute Volunteers. Save often.
